If you need your student to leave early, please make sure you have called the campus to release your student as they may not get this notification in time.

LISD welcomes the ability to partner with you on your child’s pre-planned absences. When making a request for a pre-planned absence, please consider that when students are absent they miss experiences and instruction that cannot be fully recaptured.

Absences may not be granted during state-mandated assessments and/or semester/final exams. Texas Education Code 25.092 and LISD Board Policy FEC (Legal) state: “In order to receive credit or a final grade for a class, a student is required to attend class 90 percent of the days class is offered regardless of whether the student's absences are excused [see FEA] or unexcused.” Therefore, if a student is reaching this threshold, the request may be denied.

LISD grading guidelines allow one day for each excused day absent to make up work unless other prior arrangements are approved by the teacher. Students may talk with teachers in advance of their approved pre-planned absence about work that will be missed. However, teachers are not required to provide the work until the student returns from the pre-planned absence.

The parent/legal guardian should complete the form online, through the app, or submit a paper copy to the campus attendance clerk at least one week in advance. If unexcused absences are recorded, LISD grading guidelines may be followed.
